Courses dealing with the coordination of SAR (Search and Rescue) operations take place in the simulator and have been developed as the result of a long-time collaboration between Aboa Mare and the Finnish Coast Guard.
During the SAR/OSC Training Day the course participants practise case-studies in the simulator. Public authorities are strongly involved in these exercises, which naturally contributes to the level of realism experienced. VTS operators and MRCC operators from the Coast Guard are involved. The course provides the participants with basic information on helicopter assistance during SAR operations. During the SAR/OSC Training Day, the shipping companies use their own teams of officers and crew in accordance with the instructions defined in their own Ship Safety Manual.
