The Elementary First Aid Course is intended for everyone who intends to work at sea irrespective of his/her future task. The aim of the course is to provide the trainees with basic skills and knowledge so they can give first aid in case of an illness or accident onboard. Special attention is also paid to the promotion of the trainees’ own health and to the prevention of accidents.

2-day course covering requirements set by STCW and IMO Model Course for Elementary First Aid for all seagoing personnel. All aspects defined in IMO Elementary First Aid and Model Course 1.13 will be covered.

Theory and practical exercises
Upon completing this training,
the participant will
- Be familiar with consideration for own safety in first aid situations
- Understand the necessity and know the sequence of immediate measures to be taken in different kind of first-aid situations
- Be able to manage resuscitation procedures
- Be familiar with the use of equipment available
- Assess the situation, the needs of the casualty, the threats to own safety and raise the alarm
- The main functions of the vital organs and body structure
- Positioning different kinds of casualties
- Resuscitation techniques and use of the AED
- Bleeding control and measures of basic shock management
- Common diseases causing sudden attacks of illness
- Measures to be taken in event of burns, scalds and accidents involving electricity. Cold injuries and hypothermia
- Measures to be taken in events of fractures and dislocations
- Use of materials in first aid kit
- Transport of casualty
- Hygiene and infection prevention
- Health promotion and prevention of accidents
- The Elementary First Aid instructors have required and excellent hands-on experience from the emergency care field. The instructors are registered as first aid teacher according to the Finnish Red Cross
- We provide a good combination of theory and practical training with appropriate equipment
- Our Elementary First Aid training is approved by the Finnish Maritime Authorities (Traficom)
- The course is mobile, it can be held in chosen environment, also onboard your ship
