Novia RDI offers a streamlined pipeline for transforming complex CAD models into interactive XR experiences, running natively on devices such as the Meta Quest 3.
From CAD models to XR
Using NVIDIA Omniverse, the Universal Scene Description (USD) format and Unity, we can rapidly convert detailed industrial assemblies into immersive, standalone XR applications. These experiences can include features such as hand tracking, part manipulation, step-by-step disassembly and assembly animations, and can be tailored for use in training, technical demonstrations, design evaluation and marketing. XR also enables large-scale industrial equipment to be presented at true scale without transporting physical models or relying on scaled-down miniatures, which is particularly valuable for exhibitions, trade fairs and remote demonstrations.
As an example, Novia RDI collaborated with Steerprop to transform a detailed CAD model of their T-series thruster, comprising over 500 individual components, into an interactive XR experience for the Meta Quest 3. Leveraging our Omniverse-USD-Unity pipeline, we preserved the model’s high-fidelity details with minimal manual processing and implemented hand-tracked interaction, part manipulation and a disassembly-assembly animation sequence. The entire experience runs natively on the Quest 3 and was developed using Unity and C#. In addition, a high-quality promotional video of the thruster was rendered in Omniverse using Python scripting, demonstrating how the same pipeline can serve both real-time XR and high-end pre-rendered content.
