Ship Security Officer Online

The Ship Security Officer (SSO) course is intended for those who need more knowledge in their current maritime security field or want to undertake duties as a Ship Security Officer.

The course has been designed in accordance with the STCW Convention regulation VI/5 and the STCW Code Section A-VI/5, the framework given in the IMO Model Course 3.19. “Ship Security Officer” and the requirements given in the ISPS Code.

The course consists of lessons as well as tasks that need to be completed and approved. The course is delivered 100% online and no physical attendance is required. The course can be conducted at any time and place convenient for the attendee.

Upon successful completion of the course, exercises and examination, the trainees should be able to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities as a Ship Security Officer.

Upon completing this training,
the participant will be able to

  • Undertake regular security inspections of the ship
  • Maintain and supervise the implementation of the Ship Security Plan
  • Coordinate the security aspects of the handling of cargo and ship’s stores
  • Propose modifications to the Ship Security Plan
  • Report to the Company Security Officer any deficiencies and non-conformities
  • Enhance security awareness and vigilance on board
  • Ensure that adequate training has been provided to shipboard personnel
  • Report all security incidents
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Ship Security Plan with the Company Security Officer and relevant Port Facility Security Officer
