Maritime Cyber Security Introduction Course

1-day course covering IMO’s regulations and guidelines on cyber risk management onboard ships. The regulations are mandatory as of 1 January 2021.

This course aims to be an eye opener with real examples from the shipping industry partly demonstrated through simulator demonstrations. The focus lies on how to prepare the organization against cyber security threats.

Upon completing this training,
the participant will

  • Understand the current requirements set by IMO’s regulations and guidelines on cyber risk management onboard ships
  • Be familiar with threats, threat actors and their objectives
  • Know how to identify potential cybersecurity incidents
  • Understand and participate in the management of cyber security strategies and actions within an organization or onboard a ship
  • What cybersecurity is and how it can affect maritime operations
  • How the maritime business can be affected by an attack
  • What attack methodologies and tools are used
  • How different attack scenarios affects maritime equipment
  • How navigation equipment can get spoofed or hacked
  • Understand how to detect and manage cybersecurity incidents (logging, monitoring, procedures, etc.)
  • How to identify cyber security incidents
  • IMO regulations, standards and guidelines
  • How to take action and make strategies in order to be prepared
  • What standards, frameworks, processes and tools that can be used when building a cyber security strategy

  • Knowledge and experience of industry security standards
  • Experience from assessing, testing and analysing shipping environment cyber security technologies and processes
  • Experience from both defensive and offensive security measures

Course complianceIMO's regulations and guidelines on cyber risk management onboard ships SMS (Safety Management Systems) requirements. The cyber risks must be appropriately addressed in existing safety management systems (as defined in the ISM Code) no later than the annual verification of the company's Document of Compliance after 1 January 2021
